Within the landscape genre, I work to integrate a range of disciplines through art; Earth Science, fundamental to ceramic materials, and Environmental Science, managing and mapping the changing land, feature strongly amongst them. Science, ceramic technique and aesthetics form a confluence, serving my process by embedding meaning.

Scientists are shouting how the Arctic Circle acts as a barometer of the shifting climate patterns. Arctic Meander illustrates the instability of polar ice, depicting quite dramatically the unforeseen changes to the region, a disintegration of magnificence that is happening very quickly.

This work has resulted from years of materials based research - it was initially a reaction to years of lifting heavy work into confined kiln spaces. Now the nature of this 2-dimensional lightweight ceramic coalesces with the delicate nature of this planet.
